Look no further, Laura is brilliant, fun, energetic and has a wealth of info to share! I'm not one for typical "tours" but this was different. We saw off the beaten path jewelry shops, secret art studios along with all the main attractions as well. I felt Laura was a friend of mine, I would have loved to have her continue our day with us! 🙂 HIGHLY recommend Stylewalk MX!!
MEXICAN ART & DESIGN SHOWCASE -JUAREZ|ROMA
Mexico City has many hidden pockets of world class design, fashion and arts. Let us show where!
No time to mess around? Get straight to the art + design + architecture heartbeats of Mexico City.
We walk you through the best of Mexico's design hotspots, workshops, pop-ups and industry hubs located in the compact trendsetting neighborhoods of La Roma-Juarez.
This private 3 hour tour is your insider's glimpse into Mexico City’s less-than-obvious & endearingly unpretentious style scene.
La Roma and La Juarez are Mexico City's slightly wacky equivalents of Brooklyn, East London or the Parisian Left bank. They are also a hub for creatives and the new edge of the Mexican cultural vanguard.
Uncover the design pulse of emergent trends in Mexico city - on foot, via our favorite, lesser-known galleries, workshops, design studios and less than obvious interiors.
We send you a checklist of interests and 100% tailor the tour to your responses.
Be it modern expressions of traditional craft, new illumination or appointment only galleries, we create a private itinerary exclusive to you.
La Roma is not brash or forthcoming.
That's one of the reasons we love her so much! It takes time to get to know her.
Our job is to help you cut to the chase & speed up the process.
MEET YOUR DESIGN HOSTS
Stylewalk MX Director, Laura Ainscough, and French-born freelance journalist Camille Coupechoux are long-standing local expats, who love keeping abreast of the latest in MX innovation & inspiration.
Stylewalk MX Director, Laura, has a great radar for the quirky, the unique, and the outstanding. That's how she started the company!
She loves the places and people she introduces you to and is well loved in the community. That means you are not a tourist when you are with her, you are a part of her neighbourhood. Having previously worked as an architectural journalist in Mexico City, Laura has the edge on linking history & traditional culture to what we see in modern day Mexico.
Laura‘s awesome outlook on life and extensive network of art and design connections, makes this tour one of a kind. Each of her guests receives an experience unique to their set of interests and outlook.
Camille is a classic, fun-loving, global citizen. She’s 30, French, has a Masters in Cultural Communications, and has been living in Mexico City for six years now.
Camille is a strong fan of art & design and makes it her job to stay on top of what is new & emerging here in Mexico City, and across the globe. Before becoming a freelancer, she used to review Mexican art events and pop-ups for La Prensa Francesa.
More recently, she was responsible for a media campaign for a local politician, so she has a good grasp of Mexican current affairs and broader topics too.
In her spare time, Camille loves to check out the latest restaurants, clubs & bars so if you are a foodie, feel free to ask her for some personal recommendations!
Forget Google maps and Evernote. You won't see anything if you have your head down following the dots on your phone.
Put your mobile in your bag, soak up all the tiny details, and let US take to you to our favorite A-list places.
Laura's introduction to design in La Roma-Juarez was one of the best walking tours I've had in any city.

Local architecture is an option!
People may wonder whether or not this kind of tour is superfluous and couldn't be done independently....A good analogy might be trying to read Shakespeare entirely on your own or alongside a talented professor. It's better with a guide!
MEXICO DESIGN TOUR PROGRAM
This is a three hour walking tour - with the option to extend.
Monday - Saturday : 11:00 & 14:30
Please note: many galleries are shut on Sundays so we close our bookings this day. If you are truly desperate for a Sunday tour, please contact our Tour Coordinator directly.
I felt like I was spending the afternoon with a good friend even though I has just met her! Laura took all of my company's interests and planned out a great day full of architecture, interior design, cute local shops and book stores. Overall, had a wonderful day with Laura and wished she could have guided me through my whole stay in Mexico City 🙂
YOUR CUSTOMIZED ITINERARY

We don't include food or drink in your tour price so you are not locked into anything prior. Some people like to pause, others like to keep going!
WHY LA ROMA & LA JUAREZ??
Often referred to as the Soho of Mexico, La Roma is an eclectic mix of colonial history, upbeat bohemia, new money, and the fresh edge of street cool. La Juarez is her up'n coming sister - already outshining the show.
Mexican City was namedWorld Design Capital in 2018
When the New York Times named Mexico City as THE #1 world travel destination way back in 2016, they said 'it hit a sweet spot'. Since then Mexico City has grow a solid international reputation as an urbane, progressive, cosmopolitan city.
BUT.....standing in the mass crowds of Centro Histórico, or sweating in the queue at the Frida Kahlo museum, however, you would be forgiven for wondering where on earth that sweet spot is.
Enter the sister suburbs of La Roma & La Juarez. They represent the contemporary face of fresh, loveable, Mexico.
A vibrant collision of colonial decay, contemporary fashion, underground chic, food obsession, and high-end development, La Roma is Mexico City's hidden treasure. La Juarez is fast on her footsteps as the new wave of avant garde bliss.
There is one small catch though...
It's just not that easy getting to the good stuff. The unique rooftop ateliers, backstreet shops, and boutiques with no signage, are the real pulse of these two neighborhoods. People find it hard to believe until they get here. Then they ask us:
How on earth did you find this place??
We love La Roma. We don't want you to miss out on what is essentially a word-of-mouth environment. Our job is to stay on top of what can't be seen from the street, and who is doing what and where. Let us do the research for you!
We navigate you through quirky boutiques tucked into buzz-only patios, sophisticated private galleries, design dens and then if you have a hankering for the best birria tacos in town, we'll take you there too!
As I didn't have a huge amount of time in Mexico City I wanted to cut straight to the chase with finding cool interiors/ antiques/ vintage boutiques... Laura is flexible with what she can include in her tours and will cater to you and your interests. I highly recommend her tours.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR ROMA TOUR
Think of us your personal curators. Our job is to filter out the mundane, drab and ubiquitous, so that you get straight to the best design examples emerging from Mexico City's cultural vanguard !
We navigate you through quirky boutiques tucked into buzz-only patios, and modern galleries in fading colonial buildings.
And then.....
Should you have a hankering for the best birria tacos in town, we'll take you there too, of course!
A one-to-one walking tour with Laura and Camille isn't really a tour. It's more like a carefully curated series of experiences allowing you to get inside the design brain of the fresh talent scene emerging in Mexico City.
We focus on ceramics, fashion & accessories, design objects, art, architecture and interiors.
Our job is to constantly scout for pop-ups and new labels that represent intelligent design, fresh creativity or innovation. In Mexico City, this does NOT always come with hype. In fact some of the most acclaimed designers keep a very low profile. You would walk straight past their workshops if you didn't know they were there! Unlike LA or London, BUZZ is not central to success in Mexico Many studios rly on word-of-mouth publicity, or export direct, without focusing on shop fronts and local markets..

These precious spots do NOT always come with a big fluoro sign and whole heap of hype.

Mexico City's savvy, cosmopolitan alter ego does exist! But you won't find it on every corner & street...
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT GOALS?
On business? Rebranding to meet local needs?
Tell Laura about your brief and she will curate a geographically broader tour so that your research and development can absorb a bigger design snapshot of the city.
Nike did it.
Constellation Group did it.
And so did Lancôme !
With Mexico City now well and truly visible on an international business radar, we are seeing more corporate groups sending small think-tank groups over to research a focus area.
If you are part of a R&D group, and require a specialized tour that provides an overview of the latest design, architecture, arts, marketing or branding trends, ask Laura to curate a customized city-wide tour so you can see beyond La Juarez and La Roma.
Nike colorists, creatives and designers on a customized six hour R & D tour.
The program included a private architecture office, a boutique design workshop doing high end hotel fit-outs, a private Luis Barragan visit, a spot of shopping fashion, and some serious espresso & pastries to keep us going!
This is my second tour with her and she did not disappoint. Her knowledge of the history of the neighborhood is impressive! Especially love all the off the beaten path boutiques, restaurants, galleries etc that she shows you. Some of them don't even have signs on them so you would walk right by if she wasn't with you! She also gave great recommendations on how to spend the rest of our time in CDMX on our visit. Highly recommend her tours!!!!
THE PULSE OF MEXICO'S DESIGN CAPITAL
Once home to Mexico City's aristocratic elite, La Roma and La Juarez have a regal past. Its aging architraves and are now inhabited by refurbished showrooms, basement workshops, and the random speakeasy.
La Roma has functioned as a creative hub for writers, intellectuals, artists and musicians since the 1950s. Whilst once the muse of American beat poets, Luis Buñuel, Fidel Castro, and contemporary pianist Michael Nyman, La Roma was originally an elite sanctuary for Mexico’s 19th century political & business players.
This neighborhood has survived several significant milestones in Mexican history, including the massive 1985 earthquake and a phase in which its name was synonymous with crime, drugs and prostitution. However, like most areas that have experienced a born-again-revival through urban development, La Roma's former periods of social demise are now barely visible.
Named a ‘magic district’ by the Mexican government, La Roma is now home to a new wave of young entrepreneurs, designers & freelancers and nouveau riche, who harmoniously live side by side the mixed demographic local families who have been property owners since year dot.
Modern La Roma happily holds hands with its history.
What was so impressive was (our guide's) the knowledge of the area regarding the history, architecture, and geography. She is charming and is not afraid to use that charm to have gallery owners open their doors off hours, get craftsman to discuss their trade or get locals to open their doors to show you their private spaces.
If you want to have an immediate friend in Mexico City who will share their secrets with you, then join Laura for a walk. The conversations, the coffee, food and time spent will be memorable.

Laura was wonderful. She was able to give us a more intimate experience of understanding Mexico City, La Roma and La Condesa . I would start your trip with her walking tours (we did two!), so as to get your bearings and have recommendations for the rest of your trip.

Laura was a fantastic guide. She was extremely informative and knowledgable. You can get that from multiple guides. What set her apart was here fun attitude and engaging personality. She seamlessly jumped between aiming the information to myself, my wife, and our 14yo son. Truly a great day.
When your feet get tired, we stop for tea, espresso, quesadillas, churros, pastries. Whatever takes your fancy!

Took the 5-hour Roma-Condesa tour with Catherine. What a great guide she was. My family and I were able to appreciate the different architectural styles which are a feature of this area and the quirky, one of a kind shops. Catherine also gave us a list of restaurants we should try and showed us some nice bars along the way. The place she recommended for lunch was pretty good and reasonably priced. She was also took note of all the things we were interested in and made a real effort to make them happen. Great day. Great guide. Highly recommended. Thank you Catherine!
When traveling to new cities, I never go the organized tour route, and prefer to look up all the interesting places to check out - to me, that's half the fun of traveling! It also seems like most tour guides are a one-size-fits-all, without much of a personality or unique point of view.
I recently traveled to Mexico City for business and had an extra day to explore the city. CDMX is huge (even for someone from LA!) and there is so much to see. I wanted to maximize my day and quickly researched tours, deciding on a 6-hour personal tour with StylewalkMX. What I found most appealing was the customization and vibe I got from the website, which seemed like a good fit for someone like me who wanted to see the major sights, get a feel for the rich culture, and just as important, eating & shopping! While it was more expensive than a canned group tour, it was definitely worth it in my opinion - I was able to customize what I wanted to see, there was a private driver, escorted walking tours, and get access to restaurants/galleries that are hard to get.
In the first leg of the tour, I ended up doing a mini-tour of the city center - Bellas Artes, Catedral, Palacio Nacional, and Templo Mayor (my favorite). Because time was short and I love museums and could spend a very long time in each, I opted not to visit them on this trip - next time! Caesar was a great tour guide, super knowledgeable about each sight and a good sense of humor. It was a bit hot when we went, so recommend hats, water, etc.
The second leg of the tour was the "Hipster La Roma" tour with Laura. The La Roma area is dope, with a lot of boutiques, galleries, coffee shops. Yes, it's very hipster, but I love how it's all still got a very local vibe. La Roma reminds me of Silverlake in LA, Abboy Kinney (5 years ago), Brooklyn (5 years ago), Marais, Shoreditch, etc. Check out the Goop's mini- guide of Mexico City, turns out the restaurant Laura was able to snag reservations for, El Parnita, is also featured.
The tour with Laura was awesome! We explored all these cool shops, galleries, and restaurants, many of which are tucked away down driveways behind gates where you have to be buzzed in. It was like having your best friend show you all their secret haunts - I loved it and totally recommend this tour!
We took a StyleWalk Mx tour with Laura in late March, 2017. Laura is very knowledgeable of the architecture and designs of Mexico. She was very responsive in setting up the tour of the Roma area. She also had a quick chat with us before we got started, just to make sure the tour was tailored to the elements that we were most interested in (e.g. architecture, food, design, jewelry, etc.). It was wonderful to see how much she enjoys Mexico City, after travelling the world and deciding to stay in the city. Laura took us behind the scenes of some design, painting and jewelry studios, which are not obvious when walking down the streets of La Roma. She knows a lot of people in the area, and was able to take us to some eclectic and very interesting design studios. Although we were not much into shopping, those travelers that enjoy browsing for unique design gifts would be very pleased with the various studios she can show you. Although the tour was somewhat at a slower pace than we were used to, we did get a very good impression of the La Romaarea we did see on the tour. I would recommend this as a tour to take which covers areas that would not be covered in the mainstream offered tours of the city. We really enjoyed our time on this tour!!
I love Roma Norte even more after going on Laura's tour. It's great to just walk around and experience the area on your own, but I got a much better appreciation with all of the knowledge and insight that Laura provides. Learning about the history, architecture, and street art was a lot of fun. I've actually been on her tour twice now and each time Laura took us to some different places behind closed doors that you would never know about if you were just strolling around on your own. This tour is a must-do for a trip to the Romaneighborhood of Mexico City.
We just did a walking tour of Roma with Laura last week and it was really awesome!
We had a great experience with Laura on our stopover. She tailored a 3 hour tour to suit our interest, and provided us with a taste of the culture we would never have found on our own. We highly recommend touring with stylewalk mx, and we cannot wait to come back and tour with her again. Mr & Mrs T.
Great for first timers to Mexico City - learn some history and view interesting architecture.
Meet some locals and see where they eat and shop. Definitely recommend!
Great way to get the vibe of a really special part of Mexico city. Fairly well mixed collection of interesting buildings/cafes/stores/street art. Highly recommended if you're looking to get a little under the skin of this sprawling, vibrant metropolis.
